ONGOING PROJECTS

Albania : Savings, Credit and Investments in North Eastern Mountain Areas

Start date: February 2004

Donor/s: International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)

Partner/s:

ASET's role: Sole implementer

Objective: The project aims to assist the Mountain Areas Financing Fund in his efforts to financially promote the agricultural development of these areas.

Activities/Events: The expert team will visit and analyze the economic and social situation of North Eastern districts of Albania: Dibër, Kukës, Tropojë, Has, Bulqizë, Mat, and Mirditë etc. During the project have been organized different meetings with representants of these areas and training of one week in Montenegro in April 2004.

Research papers/Publications: For each phase of project has been elaborated a Report and the Final Report will be published and presented to the Workshop that will be organized in September 2005.

Competitive Advantages of Companies in Albanian Industry:
Actual Situation and Politics for Their Development in the Future

Start date: January 2005

Partner/s:

ASET's role: Sole implementer

Objective: Aims to investigate regional/global competitiveness of Albanian industries in a new era of economic integration.

Activities/Events: Round-tables with business community members.

Research papers/Publications: Final Report with recommendations for the policy makers, helping them to design and implement appropriate and market-oriented policies in support of promising industries in Albania .

Design and Implementation of a Beneficiary Assessment Survey

Start date: February 2005

Donor/s: International Development Association and Ministry of Finance – Project Implementation Unit

Partner/s: ACER ( Albanian Center for Economic Research)

ASET's role: Project Manager

Objective: The main goal of this project is providing the consulting services for the “Design and Implementation of a Beneficiary Assessments Survey and Carry out the Analysis of the Collected Data”.

Activities/Events: This project has included: collection of relevant literature to project domain, involvement of intellectuals/experts to satisfy the purpose of the project and realization of public events as well as on-field surveys and publishing of project reports in compliance with standards and requirements of donor(s).

Research papers/Publications: Project reports and a final report has been elaborated and published during the implement of this project.

Harmonization of Social Policies with Educational Policies

Start date: April 2005

Donor/s: SOROS Foundation “Open Society for Albania ”

Partner/s: Education Development (Zhvillimi i Edukimit)

ASET's role: Project Manager

Objective: Elaboration of a policy paper where the main aim is to stimulate the compilation and putting into practice social politics, which will serve for the realization of National Strategy for Social, and Economic Development (NSSED) and Millennium Goal regarding education sector.

Activities/Events: The implementation of this project include: roundtables, TV debate, publication of articles in press, elaboration of a law draft etc.

Research papers/Publications: Policy papers regarding harmonization of social policies with education policies and a draft law regarding this aim.

Project Title: ALBANIA – GROWTH AND POVERTY REDUCTION STRATEGY (GPRS)

Narrative Description of Project:

The Albanian government selected the Albanian Socio Economic Think-tank ASET and the Institute of Contemporary Studies to offer their consultation in designing a national strategy, in economic growing and poverty reduction.

DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A LABOR MARKETS SALARY SURVEY IN ALBANIA

Name of Client: Albanian government (Department of Public Administration) and World Bank.

Narrative Description of Project:

The Government's Department of Public Administration (DoPA), in consultation with the World Bank, assigned ASET & Albanian Center for Economic Research ACER for designing and implementing a set of salary surveys of workers in nine different districts of the Albanian labor market.

Narrative Description of Project:

Financial Rural Fond assigned the Albanian Socio Economic Think-Tank the task of training services, related to the clients (SME-s) of the Financial Rural Fond.

Narrative Description of Project:

“Sopoti” was a project idea of VEVE Group, which assigned ASET to undertake a market survey for mineral natural and carbonated water of Spathari source, which is found around 4 km distant from the city of Librazhd .

Marketing Distribution ltd. had planed to prepare an illustrative company brochure, which would introduce the company as an integral part of the efforts made by the Albanian society to achieve the European standards in commercial services.

Albanian Socio Economic Think-tank in consortium with the Albanian Center for Economic Research has developed the project of design and implementation of beneficiary assessment survey in accordance with the Request for Proposal of Micro credit project – IDA Credit, Project of Implementation Unit - Ministry of Finance.

Project Title: SURVEY ON LOCAL FEES AND TAXES FOR BUSINESS OPERATING IN ALBANIA

Narrative Description of Project:

This project was designed to have, as a final outcome, a survey of all local fees and taxes for business operating in Albania , with the emphasis on the price differences between municipalities.

ASET in consortium with ACER and Agrarian Studies & Project Association in consultation with the MADA officer, will conduct a review of the data already collected by the secondary information sources (Appraisal Report for MADA, The result of irrigation Schemes, District Socio Economic statistics for 2000-2001, Farmer Association Records etc), and will design a set of survey instrument and checklist, as well as sampling plans.

Narrative Description of Project:

GTZ, in collaboration with ASET and under the supervision of Economy Ministry, have elaborated a study about the statistical system and his principal indicators in Albania . The purpose of this project was the harmonization of the used methodology by the experts in different institutions regarding this study.

The aim of this project is to achieve the sensibilization of the business community for the necessity of fighting the corruption and the role that it has to play in this process and also to transmit messages to Public Administration regarding this fact.

Narrative Description: The aim of this project is to achieve the stimulation of collaboration between local NGO-s and Municipality of Vlora . We are developing different activities to promote the necessity of collaboration and the role that these NGO-s have to play in this process and also to transmit messages to Municipality of Vlora regarding this fact.

Project Title: SECTORIAL STUDIES – RETAIL AND WHOLESALE OF FUEL IN ALBANIA

Name of Client: Southeast Europe Enterprise Development (SEED)

Narrative Description: This study aims to analyze the retail and wholesale market for fuel products like: gas, jet oil, light oil, diesel, kerosene and heavy oils, including information regarding its main players, both local producers and importers, the demand and supply, technology level and new investments regarding this sector.
